The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics: An offshoot of the Environmental Working Group, this non-profit organization researches the chemical compounds prevalent in modern-day cosmetic & beauty aids, and educates the public about the effects of these ingredients.  Of special interest are their articles on Phthalates and Parabens, to which I’ve posted links for your edification.  www.safecosmetics.org

House of Hope:  The non-profit organization that really speaks to my heart!  Started in 2005 by a woman with a heart as big as her country, House of Hope cares for & educates children who have been orphaned due to the ravages of HIV/AIDS.  House of Hope fills a dire need in Uganda, and I am honored to support them!  http://worldactionforhumanity.org/house-of-hope

Norabloom: The only other line of skin care products that ever touches my skin (besides my own, of course!).  Operated by my colleague and friend, Holly Green Langley, Norabloom offers natural creams and paraben-free mineral make-up – and I’m particularly fond of her Aloe Microderm Scrub.  It yields professional-level results at home, and you can rest assured that it’s free of petrochemicals and parabens (unlike virtually every other microderm scrub on the market).  Stop by and visit, and be sure to tell her that Shannon Tiffany sent you!  http://www.norabloom.com

West Haven Farm: Have you hugged your CSA today?  CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, and it’s a wonderful way to not only support local & organic farmers, but also nourish your family with wholesome goodness.  In the Ithaca area we are blessed with a number of top-notch CSA farms – I’m happy to be a member of West Haven Farm, and you can learn more about them here (www.westhavenfarm.net). Living outside the Ithaca area?  Check out Local Harvest (http://www.localharvest.org/csa/) to learn more about CSAs and to find a participating farm near you!

The Shop:  Not only does Phoebe brew the PERFECT cup of coffee, but patrons can enjoy "Mom-baked" homemade chocolate chip cookies, play a game of Scrabble, create some Origami (Tuesday nite is Origami night!), and get a rockin' tattoo at the Model Citizen custom tattoo parlor, quirkily nestled in the back of the cafe.  I love this place!  http://theshopcafe.com/

The Fox and the Grapes: Visiting the beautiful Finger Lakes region?  Enhance your experience with a stay at this premier bed and breakfast!  Romantic and charming, with views that are beautiful beyond measure... you just may be tempted to try their Elopement Package!  Locally owned and operated by my friend & neighbor James Pellegrini, The Fox and the Grapes is sure to transform your visit into a treasured memory.  www.thefoxandthegrapes.com

Frontier Pack Train: If you’re an outdoorsy type like me, this outfit can provide your dream vacation!  Explore the Eastern Sierras’ rugged beauty with their stunning horses and knowledgeable staff, and capture the trip of a lifetime… (FYI:  they even set up camp and cook for you – it doesn’t get much better!)  www.frontierpacktrain.com

Scythian: Also known as “Celtic Adrenaline Peddlers,” or simply raucus good fun.  This DC-based band of classically trained musicians reinvents traditional tunes with modern flair, and offer up performances guaranteed to make even the mildest wallflower break forth in beaming, dancing joie de vivre.  Touring nationally, and frequenting the Ithaca area every few months, these fellas are an act not to be missed!   www.scythianmusic.com
